2.1 - What is the new structure of VR? Breaking down the format

You're eager to delve into the VR preparation, and here we are, diving right in! The GRE underwent a significant revamp in September 2023. Gone are the days of the older format, which consisted of 2 sections, each with 20 questions to be completed in 30 minutes. The new, shorter GRE format, although maintaining the 2-section structure, is much more concise, a boon for those who find prolonged exams taxing.

This compact version presents a total of 27 questions across both sections to be tackled in 41 minutes. It might seem perplexing since 27 doesn't divide neatly into two, meaning the sections will have an unequal distribution of questions and time. But rest assured, the time allocated per question remains consistent with the older format: approximately 1.5 minutes each.

While the format has changed, the core question types remain consistent: Text Completion, Sentence Equivalence, and Reading Comprehension. Text Completion can vary, with single, double, or even the occasional triple blank questions. Reading Comprehension, too, can be of short passages or longer multi-paragraph ones.

To wrap up, this lesson serves as a snapshot of the restructured VR section. We'll delve deeper into each question type in upcoming lessons.
